Default engine rebuild or swap???

I just got a 2004 subaru wrx that needs either a new enigine or rebuild. I dont know what would be better to do. If rebuild does anyone know what rebuild kits there are out there. What motors can all go in this wrx???

There's not much point in a rebuild if all you're looking to get out of it is a standard engine. If you decide on a rebuild then go all out and do a performance build, otherwise just buy a low miles STi crate engine, drop it in and sell the old engine for parts.

As for the motor, pretty much any engine from a WRX or STi will fit as long as the displacement is the same. What you need to keep in mind if you get an engine from a WRX or STi that's a different year to yours is that the ECU and other electrics may not be compatible. Good excuse to get an aftermarket ECU which solves this problem of course
